A GOOD PLACE TO START

From filenames to a real collection.

A practical guide to your first anime or TV cleanup.

01 · Open a series or mixed collection

Start in the browser preview with sample filenames, or run the desktop app and select a collection folder. The desktop Collection Studio handles TV shows and movies together. Connect an SMB share with your credentials, or choose an already mounted folder. The browser preview and desktop Single-series JSON tab handle one series at a time.

02 · Map folders and individual files

In Collection Studio, open folders or right-click an item. Map a folder to a TV series and season, or a file to a movie. Search TVmaze for series and Wikidata for movies, then confirm the title and year. Specific file mappings override folder mappings. Ignore extras and archives explicitly; they are never extracted.

Release tags in brackets and braces can be filtered when inferring episode numbers. Set source/output starting numbers for absolute numbering, or map an individual file to an episode to correct it. Guide mismatches and duplicate destinations stay in review.

Using the single-series JSON editor

Choose the anime template for absolute numbers such as “Series - 13.mkv”. Edit the title, year and ranges. Set start and end to the absolute episode numbers, season to their destination season, and firstEpisode to the destination episode at the start of that range.

{ "start": 13, "end": 24, "season": 2, "firstEpisode": 1 }

Series - 13.mkv → Series/Season 02/Series - S02E01.mkv

Choose the TV rule when files already contain S01E01 or 1x01. It preserves those numbers. Use the TV episode guide in the rule library or workspace to look up a series and check its season and episode listings. Numbering varies between metadata providers; the app does not guess season boundaries or change your rule from guide data automatically.

Consult the Plex naming guide or Jellyfin naming guide for your server’s setup.

03 · Inspect every proposed change

Review original and destination names. Ambiguous filenames, unsupported files, multi-episode files, specials and collisions are flagged. Resolve these before exporting a plan or applying a batch. Subtitle sidecars are not renamed in this beta.

Export a browser preview as JSON. In the desktop app, select the matching source folder and import the preview in Single-series JSON. Collection Studio uses its own version 2 collection-rule export. The desktop app recomputes all paths from the rule, so imported destination paths are never executed.

04 · Select files and their destinations

In Collection Studio, select the mapped files you want to transfer and choose separate TV and movie destinations. Unmapped, ignored and unselected files stay untouched. Copy preserves the original; move verifies the new file before removing the old one. A final native confirmation shows the number of files and destination. Keep backups for valuable collections. A batch is not an all-or-nothing transaction; each file reports its own result.

05 · Share a fix, not your files

Use “Find matching community rules” after scanning a collection. Inspect any match before loading it. Export your mapping locally or share it for moderation after reviewing the relative paths it contains. Visit the rule library to inspect and export rules or submit a mapping with tags and a description. A folder fingerprint is an optional SHA-256 hash of sorted relative filenames, including subfolders. It matches an identical naming layout, not the video content. Changed names produce a different hash.

Community submissions and new versions start in moderation. Private management keys let you update or withdraw your rules without an author profile. Feedback receipts are separate for each version; duplicate votes are not counted twice. Reports queue a review and dislikes affect ranking without automatically hiding a rule. Read what the app stores before sharing.
